Handycam is a brand name used by Sony for its camcorders. The first Handycam was made in 1985. It used the 8mm format. The first DV camcorders, introduced in 1995, were Handycams. Since the first Handycam, the Sony camcorder line has grown to include Hi8, Digital8, MicroMV, and DVD camcorders.
