Some camcorders can be hooked up to an analog source to record the analog source onto the tape. One use of this feature is for recording the output of wireless cameras or external cameras such as helmet-mounted cams or hidden “spy” cameras.

A camcorder with Analog inputs may or may not have analog to digital pass through. Analog to digital pass through lets you convert analog video signals to DV without recording to the tape first. It is helpful for converting aging analog tapes into DVDs or digital video.
